Biography

It was no surprise that Mr. Sibirsky became a music teacher. His mother sings. His father and step-mother (Charles & Vita Sibirsky) are both pianists, who run a music school in Park Slope (www.SlopeMusic.com).

Mr. Sibirsky dabbled with a number of instruments early on, but it wasn't until middle school, that he eventually settled on flute and piano. He has also studied clarinet, trumpet, trombone, alto and tenor saxophones, to broaden his knowledge and enable him to help his Band students. Besides playing instruments, he MC's, produces, DJ's, has penned lyrics for jazz and classical music and has published poems and articles in college papers and local magazines.

Over the years, Mr. Sibirsky learned how to do web and graphic design, record and engineer music sessions, film and photograph events and edit video. This led to a greater understanding of technology as it relates to the arts, especially music. Working at a small innovative school like Arts & Letters has allowed him to develop his curriculum, teaching that which he loves most - Music and Technology!

Mr. Sibirsky continues to learn new things and is presently studying guitar, learning the movie-editing program Final Cut and teaching an online poetry course using Moodle for the Online Learning Academy, Rockland Teachers' Center Institute and the New York Institute of Technology.

Having taught elementary school band and chorus for 10 years, Mr. Sibirsky is happy to be teaching middle school, where he can impart more advanced musical knowledge to slightly older kids. He is thrilled to be working with the talented students of Urban Assembly Academy of Arts & Letters - truly the "ones to watch!" and hopes he can share what he's learned from his own study of music and technology, to help them find their voice and achieve their goals and dreams!
